Treasures In Prison Cells
Pastor
Al Whittinghill writes, "In the
world system when something is broken, it
is set aside. But in the Kingdom of God,
He sets aside the unbroken thing. it is
the precious, broken thing that He uses
to confound the wise and show the world
His glory through vessels of clay."
Do a large percentage of those in the church
view prisoners and their families as broken
in a way which is no different than the
world? Are those who are unbroken in the
church set aside by God, while the precious,
broken things confound the wise and show
His glory as vessels of clay?
I've heard the complaints that the local
church does not reach out to prisoners,
but in reality, it is the prisoner and their
families who are called to reach out to
the church. Let's pray that God will change
our perspective from asking the church for
help, but rather see ourselves ministering
to the church inside and outside the walls.
The apostle Paul was a prisoner (Eph. 3:1),
and our attitude should be as his when he
states, "Just think! Though I did
nothing to deserve it, and though I am the
least deserving Christian there is, I was
chosen for this special joy of telling the
Gentiles about the endless treasures available
to them in Christ. I was chosen to explain
to everyone this plan that God, the Creator
of all things, had kept secret form the
beginning" (Eph. 3:8,9 NLT). For
